Mapping provider signals to risk categories

Turn a raw provider result into a Green, Yellow, or Red outcome.

Connecting a 3rd-party provider on its own doesn't change anyone's score. A provider only affects scoring once you've mapped its possible results to one of your own Risk categories. Until a signal is mapped, it's informational only.

Worked example

Say you've connected OpenCorporates. It can return a few different results for a company lookup, including "Company not found" and "Company inactive/dissolved". Neither of those affects scoring by itself — you decide what they mean for your risk appetite:

A sanctions hit from Sanctions.io or ComplyAdvantage, by contrast, is usually mapped straight to Red for most organizations — but the choice is always yours to make.

Setting up a mapping

1
Connect the provider first

You can only map signals for a provider that's already connected. See the setup guide for OpenCorporates, Sanctions.io, ComplyAdvantage, or TRM Labs if you haven't yet.

2
Open the provider's signal mapping

On the connected provider's card in Integrations, open its signal mapping. You'll see every possible result that provider can return.

3
Assign a risk category to each signal you care about

For each result, choose one of your existing Risk categories (Green, Yellow, Red, or any custom category you've set up) — or leave it unmapped.

4
Save

Mappings take effect on the next lookup for that provider. Existing scored records aren't retroactively rescored.

Unmapped signals are informational only — they'll still show up on a record's detail view, but they don't move the score in either direction. Leaving a signal unmapped is a valid choice, not an error.
