Connecting OpenCorporates

Where to find your OpenCorporates API Token and connect it to Salescheck.io.

This step can only be done by a user with the Admin or Compliance role in Salescheck.io. You'll need your own OpenCorporates account and subscription - Salescheck.io doesn't provide OpenCorporates access, it only uses your existing key to run lookups on your behalf.

What this connects

OpenCorporates is used for KYB (Know Your Business) checks - verifying a company exists in an official registry and whether its status is active, inactive, or dissolved. It's triggered whenever a lookup or CRM record includes a company name.

Steps

1
Sign up or log in at OpenCorporates

Go to opencorporates.com/users/sign_in. If you don't have an account yet, choose a plan at opencorporates.com/plug-in-our-data - a paid plan is needed for meaningful API volume; the free tier is very limited.

2
Find your API Token

Go to your account page at opencorporates.com/users/account and look for the API Account section. Your token and current usage/quota are shown there.

3
Paste it into Salescheck.io

In Salescheck.io, go to Integrations, find the OpenCorporates card, paste the token into the API Token field, and click Connect.

4
Map signals to risk categories

Once connected, decide what each possible result means for your risk appetite - e.g. map "Company not found" to Red, "Company inactive/dissolved" to Yellow. Unmapped signals don't affect scoring.

We don't verify the token until it's actually used for a lookup - a bad or expired token just causes that provider's check to be skipped for that lookup; local rule-based scoring keeps working regardless.
