Setting up risk categories

Create named categories and assign them a color.

Risk categories are your organization's own labels for risk — things like "OFAC Sanctioned", "Restricted", or "Elevated — internal policy". Each category maps to one of three colors — Green, Yellow, or Red — which is what actually drives scoring. The name and description are for your team; the color is what Salescheck.io acts on.

Categories must exist before you can reference them in a rule. Set these up first, then head to Creating rules to start tagging countries, MCCs, and NAICS codes with them.

Steps

1
Open Risk categories

In the app, go to the Risk categories tab under Scoring. You'll need Admin access, or Member access with Compliance access granted.

2
Name the category

Use a name your team will recognize on sight — e.g. OFAC Sanctioned or High risk — manual review. This is what shows up wherever the category is referenced.

3
Pick a color

Choose Green, Yellow, or Red. This is the tier that gets returned whenever a rule tagged with this category matches — it's what feeds into worst-tier-wins scoring.

4
Add a description (optional)

A short internal note on what the category means or when it should be used — useful once you have more than a couple of categories, so the next person tagging a rule doesn't have to guess.

5
Save

The category is immediately available to pick from when creating or editing rules.

Editing and deleting

You can rename a category, change its color, or update its description at any time — every rule tagged with that category updates automatically, since rules only store a reference to the category, not a copy of its color. Deleting a category cannot be undone; any rule still tagged with it will need to be re-tagged.
